Biography

Janine Samuelson (she/her) was born and raised in Central Alberta and attended the University of Calgary, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art in 1986. Janine’s work in drawing and relief printmaking is an interpretive view of Western Canada and her experiences, leaning into the themes of movement, texture, and pattern. Linocuts are printed with oil-based inks and a variety of barens or hand-pulled on Reggie, the etching press that was added to her home studio in 2020. Woodcuts are created using traditional Japanese tools and are printed with water-based inks and a bamboo baren in the Mokuhanga method.
