So, what exactly is a collagraph?

A collagraph is a form of printmaking where we make a plate by adding texture to a surface.

Instead of carving a design in lino or etching a piece of metal. In this process, we simply cut into matt/mount board or a thick cardboard. Or even build up our base board using different materials, which in turn will create interesting textures and marks when printed.

For this workshop, I will be showing you how I use a Matt Board to create our own little pebble shapes. A bunch of various pebble templates are made available to use physically or for inspiration.

Together, I will show you how to create light and dark tones and shapes that resemble the interesting formations in a natural stone.

The best part about collagraphs?

You never quite know what you’re going to get! Each print has its own personality, and a simple piece of card will become something really special.

It’s all about playing, experimenting, and discovering what happens.
