Biography
The cat in this picture is my house cat at home, and his name is Azooz. He is very dear to me. Azooz is definitely an animal with attitude because, all the time when he is at home, he always looks at me with unimpressed cat eyes, and his favourite thing to do is explore outside the house. With Azooz’s attitude, I decided to create this relief print of Azooz with his unimpressed eyes outside in nature.
Making this print, I have learnt that when you are printing, you must perfectly align your lino cut onto your paper. This is because when I did my print with the colour green, it was slightly mispositioned from the colour yellow, which wasn’t ideal at all because the carving of the green layer was all of the small details, like the yellow stripes of my cat and the flowers in the background. This is especially important because it can meddle with how I want the impact of positive and negative space to turn out. After the colour green, I was going to add a final print of brown, where I would carve out all the areas I wanted to stay green, the bush and the flower bases, but I didn’t get the time to do it. This was unfortunate because I was trying to contrast the yellow stripes of my cat with his mostly brown colour.
