John Pedder is a woodcut printmaker who came to the medium after decades of making, building, and drawing — only to realise, with some amusement, that combining carpentry and illustration had been the answer all along. His bold, carved prints celebrate simplicity, labour, and the beauty of chance. Rooted in process and grounded on the surface of the paper, his work rejects illusion in favour of raw, deliberate mark-making. For John, creative restriction isn’t a limitation — it’s the engine of invention. He’s been fully immersed in the print world since a self-proclaimed epiphany five years ago and hasn’t looked back since.
