Biography

This work explores the expressive potential of animals through gesture, posture, and presence. I am interested in how personality emerges through subtle cues — a stance, a gaze, a sense of self-possession within the frame. My broader practice centres on the body and emotional resonance, and here that attention shifts toward the animal as subject. Rather than passive representation, these creatures are approached as self-possessed, each holding a distinct presence. Working in lino cut, I engage a process of reduction, where line, shape, and contrast carry both form and attitude. The constraints of editioning invite precision alongside variation, with subtle differences in inking and pressure creating nuance across impressions. Through this process, the work reflects on the familiarity of attitude — the ways personality is recognised, projected, and shared across species.
