Print Exchange 2026: Joanne Mildenhall

In Animals with Attitude, I explore the wonderfully cheeky side of the animal kingdom. These are not shy, polite creatures quietly minding their own business—these animals have opinions. Lots of them. From a side-eye that could silence a room to a stance that clearly says, “I woke up like this,” each animal brings its own brand of confidence, curiosity, and mischief. I’m fascinated by the small expressions and gestures that make animals seem so relatable. A raised eyebrow, a puffed chest, a look of complete indifference—suddenly they feel less like wildlife and more like familiar personalities we might recognise in ourselves, our friends, or that one person in the coffee queue. Humour sits at the heart of this series. By giving animals a touch of theatrical flair, I invite viewers to smile, imagine their inner monologue, and perhaps see a little of their own attitude staring back at them. After all, who hasn’t felt a bit like a grumpy cat or a strutting rooster now and then? 🐾
